Biography

Vicente Galbis is professor in the Department of Didactics of Musical, Plastic and Corporal Expression at the Universitat de València. He holds a degree in Geography and History, with specialization in Musicology (University of Oviedo) and Extraordinary Doctorate Award (University of Valencia). He has been a guest lecturer in postgraduate courses at the University of Salamanca and the Polytechnic University of Valencia. One of his main lines of research is Valencian music of the 19th and 20th centuries, both in the field of creation and musical activity. He has published books on composers such as Salvador Giner and Eduardo López-Chavarri. He has studied musical activity in Valencia during the 20th century in his book on the city’s orchestra, as well as in book chapters and articles on stage music (opera and zarzuela), brass bands and choirs. He was assistant director of the Diccionario de la Música Valenciana (Dictionary of Valencian Music) (2006), a musicological reference work on this subject. Contact: vicente.galbis@uv.es
